In 2023, the European Coalitions for Cultural Diversity are launching their new website.
New year, new site, new graphic identity: to mark the new year, the European Coalitions for Cultural Diversity, of which the Coalition is a member, are getting a makeover and boosting their visibility.
Founded in 2005, the European Coalitions for Cultural Diversity (ECCD) is an association of national coalitions that promotes the diversity of cultural expressions. It brings together 11 national coalitions representing professional cultural and creative organisations in the fields of cinema, audiovisual, live performance, publishing, music, visual arts and multimedia. They cover all professions in the arts and cultural sectors such as authors, producers, composers, publishers, performers, broadcasters, etc. The CEDC operates in Brussels to enforce the 2005 UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, which the EU has ratified. Guided by the values of the Convention, they ensure that EU policies and measures support:
- The development of dynamic cultural and creative sectors
- The diversity of content across all media
- The diversity of cultural expressions in the digital environment and the discoverability of online works for all citizens.
- The mobility of artists and cultural professionals
- Better consideration of our creators in the digital environment
Since 2014, Carole Tongue, former member of the European Parliament and coordinator of the Socialist Group for Culture, Media, Sport, Education and Youth, has been president of the European Coalitions for Cultural Diversity. She also founded and chaired the British Coalition for the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (UKCCD). In her manifesto for 2023, she renews her commitment to the European Coalitions ‘in the era of the monopolisation of online distribution channels and the internet economy by an oligopoly of owners, whose platforms direct us towards cultural and creative content according to their algorithmic choices’, a context that has given new meaning to the fight for cultural diversity. In this sense, the CEDC monitors and acts to ‘ensure the visibility and promotion of the works of European creators in the name of cultural diversity’.
The French Coalition wishes the European Coalitions every success in their online development and will continue to contribute as an active member for the year 2023.
